Those Who Leave, Those Who Stay (2024, 67min) is a docu-fiction film directed by Wan Qing @wanqing_r and played by friends who often work together in collective contexts in Guangzhou, China. Her work is low-budget, humorous, and whimsical - a breath of fresh air in Chinese contemporary cinema.

Film Synopsis:
‘This was a rare journey. We went to northern suburbs to paint from life. lu (played by Zhang Hanlu @hole_in_pocket ) was about to end her continuous life in Guangzhou and even in China. ou (played by Ou Feihong @oufeihong ) talked about his ten-year travel plan to spend the senior ages in China. I wandered, feeling the impermanence of life, where no surprise existed.
Over the past seven years, we didn’t lack the experience of collective work, but, my companions, my friends, we don’t really know each other, we haven’t even been ourselves enough. Too many are the ones who disappeared without a chance for farewell—lovers, friends, and even those once despised; this time, I just want to let go of control...’
