📖 A Falling Volcano – Book Launch. A novella written and handmade by artist Yezi Lin (@yeziyezilin).
The story follows Huoshan, a young woman navigating the tension between fantasy and reality, internalized Orientalism and Western disillusionment. Blending interviews, memories and observation, the novella explores identity, freedom, and the often painful contradictions of cross-cultural existence.
✍️ In Chinese & English | 130 pages | Stencil printed (copies for sale at the event). Artist talk and conversation moderated by @emiliosantoyo
🎥 space invaders – Short Film by artist and filmmaker Malaz Usta (@malaz.usta)
Exiles are asked questions concerning their life, (plans), and reasons for (their choices). The film tries to communicate the feelings of the displaced, and the absurdity of such questions. A parody of misinformation, and an exploration of feelings of confusion, loneliness, and uncertainty.
Screening with the presence of the director.
🎥 the elephant the room – Short Film by filmmaker Anas Qadamani (@anas.qadamani)
Anas Qadamani uses a variety of appropriated images from different sources to weave a fierce critique of colonialism and political double standards. Taking the African elephants brought to Europe as a starting point, this essay film leads us to a more general reflection on the contemporary crises that are destroying our world and robbing it of humanity.
Screening with the presence of the director.
During the event we will have homemade Syrian and Chinese cuisine & drinks, and the three artists will join an informal conversation. 🥗🍲
